maps n movies
i wasn't sure if i would learn anything today, but i surprised even myself! again, nothing very interesting though!
today i learnt where eskdale rise in allerton was. my sister-in-law phoned the other day to see if i could drop her and her daughter off at a birthday party today. i agreed without really knowing where it was. so this morning, about half an hour before going to pick them up, i checked multimap to find out where it was. it turned out it was all of a 5 minute walk from their house! but i drove there and took them anyway cos i had promised afterall!! she said they'd walk back!
i also learnt that there is to be a transformers live action film today! thanks to uncle bli for pointing me to this site. ooh, i'm all excited! the funny thing is i have my autobots t-shirt on today aswell!
so far i'm off to a good start. it really is looking as though i learn a new thing everyday, and sometimes more than one new thing. but i have only been loging it for a few days and it could be beginners luck...

toy doll eroticons
hey you 2 (or 3 maybe, if i'm lucky!)... well, i just learnt something new about 5 minutes ago. it's a little bit nerdy / techno-geeky though so promise not to mock me for not having a life!
one of the interweb message forums that i frequent is the toy dolls's board, idle gossip and earlier today ki_boy complained that when he did smiley's :) etc that they were just showing up as exactly that- a colon and a 'close-bracket' (parenthesis? plural is parentheses so what's the singular?). anyway, i digress! when you type a smiley in a message it usually converts it to a

or various other smiley's. it worked on other peoples posts and so i set about todays task.

and i thought ah, that'll be it then! maybe he knocked one of these radio buttons. so i hit 'reply' to reply to his post and inform him of my findings and saw underneath the text area that there's a ticky-box for 'disable emoticons' so all my hard work was in vain! so, anyway, i learnt three things today:
- how to disable/enable emoticons on a cutecast message forum
- that there's usually a quicker way than my way, and
- parenthesis is the singular of parentheses (i checked at dictionary.com
wow, three new things today! and i still have to try and burn my first dvd-r tonight so i'm sure i may even learn more, but i'll not be greedy, three will do for now.

learn to learn
today's new thing was an easy one. a quick visit to dictionary.com to learn the definition of the word 'learn'.

i thought that seeing as my plan is to log any new things that i learn then i should really get a definition of the word learn. i wasn't aware previously that learning can mean to become aware. i am aware of it now and therefore i have learnt it. wow, so far the phrase is true, i have learnt something new every day (at least yesterday and today anyway!). lets see how the rest of the week goes!

you learn something new everyday; or do you?
ok, so, i thought i'd start this blogging thing for proper. i fully admit that i stole this idea from my brother, andy who ages ago said 'i wonder if we really do learn a new thing every day, i'm gonna make a website and log every new thing i learn...'. needless to say in true morley fashion he never did. so i'm doing it instead.
i know it looks a bit plain and crappy at the moment but i have just set it up and eventually i plan to make it fit in with the rest of my site at www.maft.co.uk, but for now this will have to do!
well, here's what i learnt today: sunwin house in bradford is so-called because it was built on the corner of sunbridge road and godwin street.
clever that, isn't it?! well, you're probably wondering how i learnt this... well, i'll be honest, i was ear wigging into a conversation on the bus when an old(ish) man was talking to a woman and her child on the bus this morning.
if i learn anything else new today then i'll stick it up on here then i might get an average of one new thing per day which would make the saying not quite right, but nearly!
